#706 It Was a Dark and Stormy Night - 2005/11/13 9:14 PM
It was a dark and stormy night. The pitter patter of tiny raindrops hit the glass of my little custom merc tracer as I sat stupefied watching the lines on the road fall on top of each other. "You're going the wrong way." She said to me in some foreign language... English.
"It's your own fault." I said in a half-reflex. Then I realized, she was talking about my driving. You see I often go the wrong way. "I'm sorry sweetheart; I was losing myself in the ambience of this beautiful, god forsaken rainy afternoon."
"Why is it my fault?" She asked.
"Don't ask questions like that." I said absentmindedly. Her voice was like nectar from a hummingbird feeder. I could feel her eyes drilling into the side of my sloppy skull. I focused on the road. I needed a distraction. We were headed over the Narrows Bridge. "Look at the water baby, is it pretty stormy, eh?"
I could feel her harpooning eyes move off me and into the churning waters below... perhaps to impale some unsuspecting octopus. "Yeah" she said, "Real stormy."
